Is There a God?

Training young Christians

Filed under: Rants — Is There a God? @ 12:52 pm

This rant started over on Ex-Christian.net where I posted the same question about religion getting easier that I wrote here a couple days ago.

One of the arguments for God was that without a God we cannot have morals. In fact, the poster implied that believing that animals can be moral is absurd. Personally I believe that most animals do know right from wrong. I know my dogs do. Sure, some animals may not, but the same can be said for humans.

For my point I used the example of one of my dogs hiding under the bed after pooping on the floor. The response was that this was a trained response in obedience rather than true morality. But, apparently if my dog cleaned up the mess it would be morality. (You need to read the post that this came from to really appreciate how it was worded).

The problem with this argument is that Jesus supposedly died for our sins, clearing our responsibility of them. Why should we not have to be responsible and clean up our messes to be moral while my dog is required to clean up after herself to prove morality?

And for the first time I quoted Biblical scripture to a Christian. We’ll see how that goes over.

Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Basically, you teach a kid when they’re young and they’ll remember as an adult. With that, I present ITAG 13:10

ITAG 13:10 – Train up your puppy in the way he should go outside and when he is old he will not crap on your carpet.

Seems to me a pretty close match. Train your children, train your puppies. When they’re adults they’ll do what’s right in your eyes.
